Makalah completed her degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Syracuse University with a certificate of advanced studies in Trauma. Makalah is currently certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). TF-CBT can be used with children ages 2-18 who have experienced abuse, trauma and other stressful or scary life events. Makalah has experiences working with families and youth who have been impacted by child abuse and trauma. Makalah specializes in grief, anxiety, depression and relationship challenges as well. For couples therapy, Makalah tends to use Gottman Methods to enhance relationships and help couples find healthier ways to communicate. Makalah also uses attachment based theories to work with couple and individuals.
Makalah works with individuals, couples and families and strives to help them connect with others and themselves on a deeper level. Makalah believes in a strengths-based approach which entails helping clients identify and utilize their internal and external resources to create lasting change. As a systems-based therapist, Makalah encourages discussion to help partners and family members have a better understanding of each other’s thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Makalah works with individuals to help deepen their connection with others and have healthy and satisfying relationships. Makalah aims to create a safe and comfortable space for all clients who are on the path of healing.
